Description

In this clinical course the student will study the influence of systemic diseases on the health of periodontal tissue. It is also intended to expand the students knowledge on the influence of periodontal infection of systemic health. Students will study the ragiographic features of various forms of periodontal destruction, It is also the aim of this course to study the effect of periodontal infection on the pulp tissue. Upon completion of this course the student should be able to identify patient who are of greater risk of having periodontal destruction, Students also will be able to diagnose and treat the periodontic-endodontic lesions and know the indications of antibiotic therapy in periodontics.

This course is also intended to introduce the surgical phase of periodontal therapy. It aims to make the student aware of the surgical modalities and their indications. Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to determine those patients he is capable of treating, as well as those more complex cases that may need to be refered to a periodontist. Student will also be able to apply the rationale behind periodontal surgical procedures, compare and evaluate basic periodontal surgical techniques, and perform simple flap procedures.
