The Libyan International University (LIMU) hosted a dynamic scientific seminar
on “Digital Surveying Techniques and Aerial Photography: Essential Tools for Planning
and Sustainable Development” on Saturday, June 29th, 2024. The event, held in the
Scout Leader Ali Khalifa Al-Zaidi Hall, brought together university leaders, faculty,
industry experts, and students for a day of learning and discussion.
The seminar kicked off with opening remarks from LIMU President, Prof. Mohamed
Saad. He highlighted the university’s commitment to cutting-edge programs and its
dedication to meeting the evolving needs of the Libyan job market. He emphasized
LIMU’s focus on collaborating with world-renowned universities and organizations to
ensure its programs meet the highest quality standards.
Following the President’s address, a lineup of distinguished speakers took the stage.
Dr. Osama Al-Sharif, Executive Director of the National Surveying and Aerial
Photography Company, delivered a captivating presentation titled “Geomatics
Technologies: Modern, Multi-Disciplinary Trends.” Ms. Khairyah Bala, a renowned urban
planning expert, then discussed “Integrating Modern Techniques (Geomatics) into
Planning Practices: Improving Decisions and Boosting Development Creativity.”
The seminar also featured a lively panel discussion with geomatics experts Dr.
Abdulrahman Al-Frajani and Dr. Jihad Al-Burju, who joined virtually from outside Libya.
Their insights sparked a thought-provoking discussion on the future of geomatics in the
region.
One of the key takeaways from the seminar was the urgent need for geomatics
expertise in the Libyan workforce. In response to this critical need, LIMU is excited to
announce the launch of its brand new Graduate Diploma Program in Geomatics! This
program will be offered through the School of Engineering and Technology, and it
promises to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in this
rapidly growing field.
