Under the Patronage of the LIMU President: Launch of the "Gharsat Watan" Initiative

With the attendance of Libyan International University (LIMU) President Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saad Ambarek, the Scout Leader Ali Khalifa Al Zaidi Hall hosted an extensive consultative gathering on Saturday evening, August 22, 2026. The event brought together academics, environmental advocates, media professionals, agricultural specialists, volunteer activists, civil society leaders, and sports figures to launch the “Gharsat Watan” (Homeland Planting) initiative.

Hosted by LIMU with direct backing from its leadership, and aligning with core sustainability goals. This community initiative aims to expand urban green spaces, protect local vegetation across Libyan cities, and implement practical solutions for climate change.

Attended by Ms. Waheba Al Hassi, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability, discussions focused on strategic mechanisms to build the project’s future framework, debating whether to establish it as a unified national initiative or a specialized non governmental environmental organization.

The session featured structured presentations driven by interactive survey technology and real time AI analytics across key pillars:

* Current Vegetation Status: Dr. Faraj Al Maqsabi evaluated existing environmental challenges and regional plant coverage.

* Lessons Learned: Eng. Muftah Al Khashmi examined past project setbacks to ensure the long term success and sustainability of upcoming afforestation efforts.

Practical Solutions and Flora Selection: Eng. Mahmoud Al Mahshah outlined scientific approaches for selecting optimal native species alongside modern, sustainable irrigation systems.

Eng. Khalid Al Manfi from LIMU demonstrated an innovative application of modern technology, leading an interactive poll via QR codes. AI applications immediately processed the responses to help participants collaboratively shape the initiative’s mission, vision, and organizational identity.

The assembly concluded with consensus on upcoming steps, culminating shortly in the official unveiling of #Gharsat_Watan, its core objectives, and its planned role in expanding national plant cover.
