Cairo: Al-Twaileb and FAO Discuss Ways to Strengthen Partnership In an effort to enhance international relations and academic and research collaboration, Dr. Meftah Al-Twaileb, Director of the Department of International Relations, visited the regional office of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Cairo on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Dr. Abdelhakim Al-Waer, the organization’s regional director, welcomed him. During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance collaboration between LIMU and the FAO, based on the university’s distinguished academic and research role in Libya and the region. The two sides discussed partnership opportunities in various fields, most notably the “One Health” concept, a topic of great importance for LIMU as it supports national dialogue on the Libyan health system. LIMU is the only Libyan member of the “Afya Moja Project” regional One Health program, which includes a group of Italian and African universities and aims to promote multi-sectoral cooperation in public, environmental, and veterinary health. The meeting also touched on prospects for cooperation in capacity building, practical training, and using the distance training and professional diploma programs offered by the FAO to develop national competencies and support development projects in Libya. The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue dialogue and joint coordination to enhance future collaboration between the two sides.
