This afternoon, Wednesday, April 30, 2025, the newly inaugurated hall “Promising Libya” hosted its very first celebration and activities, marking its addition as a top-tier venue within the Libyan International Medical University (LIMU) campus. The annual Labor Day festivities were attended by the University President, senior leadership, faculty members, and staff.
The President opened his address by saluting the dedicated hands and industrious arms that faithfully perform their duties with precision, embodying their loyalty to our institution. He noted that each year we honor our workers on Labor Day—those who safeguard this and, through their sweat and effort, present it in its finest form. He affirmed his belief that today’s recognition will inspire everyone to strengthen their attachment to LIMU and redouble their efforts.
Emphasizing that we at LIMU are one big family, he said, “We rush to aid one another,” and explained that this ceremony is our collective acknowledgment of the generous labors that preserve the University. “This attention paid to you,” he added, “will spur further dedication to our mission.”
He continued by acknowledging every drop of sweat shed at LIMU—each one a contribution to excellence and growth. “We are aware of all the work done,” he said, singling out the campus security team whose efforts may go unnoticed except when we enter or leave, yet whose vigilance ensures our safety around the clock. We salute the maintenance crews who never delay a repair, the cleaning staff whose efforts keep our premises immaculate minute by minute, and the hospitality team. Every service—whether transport logistics, procurement, or residence-life support—is vital and valued.
“LIMU’s community is more than just professors, students, administrative staff, and technicians,” the President reminded everyone. “It’s also the determined workers who deliver critical services for our University.” He expressed pride in all that LIMU has accomplished and in every individual who has played their part, insisting that no role is insignificant.
A special feature of today’s gathering, he noted, is its being held in the “Promising Libya” Hall—a new venue that befits LIMU’s reputation and standing. He reiterated our commitment to constant improvement, to making the most of every inch of this campus to standards worthy of our institution.
Now entering its eighteenth year and supporting over 600 employees, LIMU operates without reliance on state subsidies, free from the trappings of a rent-seeking system. By generating employment and bolstering the local economy, the University’s prosperity directly benefits every staff member through improved salaries. We never wait for demands; we proactively adjust pay scales and have taken extraordinary measures—most recently during Ramadan—not as charity, but as fair compensation.
Looking ahead, we aim for even greater unity and achievement next year under better conditions. We feel secure in our thriving city, rebuilt through the sacrifices of Libya’s honorable citizens. Concluding his remarks, the President called for an end to futile policies and dependence on state handouts. Since its founding, LIMU has received no external funding, standing on its own merits. Its graduates—serial high-achievers—now serve with distinction across diverse institutions.
“We are neither a charity nor a burden on anyone,” he declared. “We deserve to celebrate Labor Day because we have built, labored, and excelled through our devotion, ambition, and the trust placed in us. Our successes are not by chance but the product of our outstanding reality, reflected in LIMU as a model of higher education.” He extended gratitude to all who contributed to this success and to those who, regrettably, could not continue with us.
The President then revealed that a surge in enrollments from across Libya has necessitated the expansion of student housing, and that parents nationwide are requesting that LIMU establish branches in every city. This triumph is thanks to everyone’s efforts—first and foremost, the faculty who have shifted from traditional teaching to guided self-learning, implementing a modern strategy whose fruits are the remarkable talents now excelling in their professions.
With boundless ambition and, God willing, ready for the significant changes and challenges already under way, he addressed the audience directly: “We must recognize that we fulfill a national mission by creating a model of education for our country. Education is the cornerstone of any true renaissance, and the greatest wealth of Libya lies in our minds—investing in them is our most precious endeavor.”
The celebration continued in an atmosphere of joy and delight, accompanied by music, floral fragrances, and the sincere words of appreciation honoring the hands that cherish this place and, through their sweat, propel its excellence and leadership for the advancement of our homeland.
