Enhancing the LIMU’s Mission: “Al-Shahoumi” Lectures on the Pillars of Libya’s Economic Future

As part of its cultural season for the academic year 2024, the Libyan International University organized a cultural and intellectual lecture on economic affairs on Wednesday
evening, August 21, 2024. The lecture was presented by international expert Dr. Suleiman
Al-Shahoumi, founder of the Libyan Stock Market, and was titled “Pillars of the Future
Economy in Libya.”
The researcher presented a precise scientific description of the Libyan economic reality, then
moved on to explore the future of the Libyan economy after all these crises, tensions, and
the absence of laws and legislation. This situation requires restructuring, redesigning its
processes, and redrawing the roles of its basic institutions.

The goal is to transform them
towards a comprehensive creative model and move away from the traditional acquisitive
model, by converting them into operating institutions and launching new economic engines
that drive investment and growth, and enhance the role of a competitive economy, with
increasing job opportunities and production at the forefront of its priorities.
The lecture was attended by the University President, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saad, who
welcomed Dr. Suleiman Al-Shahoumi and commended his initiative to deliver this valuable
lecture.
The lecture also witnessed a qualitative attendance of a number of individuals interested in
Libyan cultural affairs, academics, and followers. They had important interventions that
praised the organization of LIMU and its constant keenness to contribute positively to the
cultural and intellectual movement of this country. These interventions, which were at the
core of the subject, formed an addition and enrichment to the lecture’s themes dedicated to
the Libyan economy. The interventions unanimously agreed on the necessity of having a
national will to implement an innovative vision that goes beyond what is established, which
had dire consequences for the Libyan economy. If the wheel of depletion, randomness, and
confusion does not stop, the end will be a dark and bankrupt tunnel at the same time. The
Libyan economy has been exhausted by a reality hostage to laws, practices, and legislation
that have nothing to do with competitiveness, transparency, governance, or creative
scientific and solid institutional paths.

In appreciation of his participation in the success and enrichment of the Libyan International
Medical University’s cultural season, the University President presented a certificate of
thanks and appreciation to Dr. Suleiman Al-Shahoumi.
