From the early morning of Saturday, December 13, 2025, Libya Al-Wa‘ida Hall was filled to capacity with researchers, academics, intellectuals, and diverse elites from various backgrounds, who took their seats from 9:00 a.m. to participate in and follow the proceedings of the International Scientific Conference on the crisis of mismatch between university educational outcomes and future labor market needs, organized and sponsored by Libyan International University (LIMU).
The event opened with a keynote speech titled “A Pioneer Does Not Deceive His People,” delivered by the President of LIMU and Conference Chair, Professor Dr. Mohamed Saad Ambarek. In his address, he welcomed the university’s distinguished guests from across the Arab world and from all regions of beloved Libya, emphasizing the critical importance of holding such a conference and the issues it addresses through scientific monitoring, critical thinking, and genuine interpretation of the dimensions of this crisis. He stressed that confronting this issue has been long overdue and that the time has come to face it directly and propose realistic, scientific, and fundamental solutions.
He also reviewed the university’s achievements in preparing educational outputs based on modern foundations centered on quality and standards. Subsequently, Dr. Abdulmajid Hussein, Head of the Preparatory Committee, delivered a speech outlining the committee’s work, guiding principles, and the philosophy upon which the conference was built.
The first scientific session then commenced under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Tawfiq Al-Tawil, alongside Prof. Dr. Reda Al-Awkali, Director of Research at LIMU, and Dr. Mohamed Al-Kawafi. The session opened with an engaging presentation by Dr. Moen Al-Qatamin, entitled “The Gap Between the Labor Market and Higher Education Outcomes,”
taking the audience on a thought-provoking journey through science, reason, and certainty via fundamental questions and profound interpretations.
This was followed by a well-documented and data-driven study presented by Dr. Mohamed Al-Aswad, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Advisor, titled “Global Challenges in Aligning Education with Labor Market Needs,” which captured wide attention.
The second scientific session was chaired by Dr. Mervat Al-Zouki, Deputy Program Director of the School of Medical and Health Sciences, Dr. Mariam Al-Shailabi, Director of the Doctor of Pharmacy Program, and Dr. Abeer Al-Muqasbi.
A distinguished presentation titled “Assessment of Trends and Transformations of the Local Market (University of Tripoli)” was delivered by Ms. Arwa Al-Jalidi and Ms. Doaa Sharaf Al-Din, characterized by data analysis, field observation, and results-based interpretation.
Dr. Jamal Al-Talhi, Director of the Medicine Program at LIMU, delivered a compelling lecture grounded in facts and real-world experience, titled “Degrees Versus Demand: Rethinking the Alignment of Academic Education with Market Needs.”
Finally, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Al-Mansouri, Vice President of LIMU for Learning Affairs, presented his study “Developing University Curricula in Line with Labor Market Requirements,” reflecting extensive expertise and sound leadership insight in higher education, curriculum development, and academic governance.
The conference activities will resume on the morning of Sunday, December 14, 2025.
