LIMU Prepares to Host National Committee for Biosafety and Bioethics

The Libyan International University’s (LIMU) engagement with Bioethics is not a recent development; it aligns perfectly with the university’s vision and mission to establish all matters related to ethics and values.

In this context, it is noteworthy that Professor Mohamed Saad Embarek, the President of LIMU, is one of the founding members of the National Committee for Bioethics.

Furthermore, the Sub-Committee for Bioethics within the university is an active and prominent member of the National Committee, consistently participating in its programs and activities, previously through the former head of the sub-committee, Professor Abdulrahman Al-Qallal. In line with this commitment, LIMU is preparing to host the meeting of the National Committee for Biosafety and Bioethics on the 29th of October.

This will be followed the next day by a specialized workshop titled “Bioethics: From Theory to Practice.” To prepare for this significant event, a coordination meeting was held in the National Unity Hall on Thursday morning, October 2, 2025. It was chaired by Ms. Najiba Astita, Director of the Communications Department, and Dr. Mervat Al-Zouki, Head of the Bioethics Sub-Committee. Attendees included Professor Suleiman Al-Sharif, Director of the Clinical Pharmacy Master’s Program, along with the Media Center, the Legal Department, and the Public Relations Department.

The meeting focused on mobilizing and dedicating all resources to host this important national scientific activity. The goal is to effectively lay the groundwork and raise awareness, making this event a genuine starting point for intensifying efforts and expanding the circle of individuals who understand the importance of these scientific and ethical values in research, diagnostic, and therapeutic practices, and to make this ethical culture an essential and binding part of every researcher’s character.
