Over the past two days, the Libyan International Medical University has been accepted as a member of the Union of Mediterranean Universities, strengthening its academic scientific position at the Mediterranean and international level, contributing to the development of research and education in the Euro-Mediterranean region, developing and implementing partnerships and cooperation agreements with many important institutions, associations and actors in the Mediterranean region and beyond, to support scientific, cultural, social and economic cooperation.
The Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED) is an academic association that currently comprises 127 universities from 23 Mediterranean countries, or of particular interest to the Mediterranean basin, and is based in Rome, Italy, and was founded in October 1991 by Italian Professor Franco Rizzi.
UNIMED works in various scientific fields and its goal is to develop research and education in the Euro-Mediterranean region to contribute to scientific, cultural, social and economic cooperation, under the theme \”University without walls\”, and conducts several activities for the benefit of associated universities, with the aim of strengthening the international dimension of universities; planning and raising funds; promoting mobility in the Euro-Mediterranean region, for students, researchers and faculty; technical assistance to promote quality assurance in university education; and the establishment of thematic sub-networks to promote scientific cooperation in specific areas, organizing meetings and discussions. National and international seminars and round tables; training of academic and administrative staff at universities, particularly for staff of international relations offices, and the development and implementation of partnerships and cooperation agreements with many important institutions, associations and actors in the Mediterranean region and beyond.
