“We are proud of what we have accomplished and proud of the achievements of Libyan women. Out of 16 Master’s in Clinical Pharmacy graduates, 15 are women.”
“Today, we present Libya with the most precious gifts: graduates educated and qualified according to quality requirements and international standards.”
With these words, the University President began his speech at the graduation ceremony for the fifth batch of the School of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) and the first batch of the Master’s in Clinical Pharmacy Program.
He continued, “Today, we add something distinguished to our dear and noble nation, which is guarded by thousands of men and whose prosperity is sought by thousands of hands. Along with building infrastructure, we are building human capital.”
The President noted, “This precious nation deserves that we present it with these competencies you see today, who have received unprecedented education in this country—an education that breaks away from rote memorization and opens the door wide to learning methods that encourage innovation and creativity and bring about a positive difference and change, which has been this University’s ultimate goal since its inception. These learning methods are comparable to those applied in the world’s most prestigious universities, relying on guided self-learning and e-learning, which has enabled them to excel locally and globally, professionally, and in fields of study and research.”
He added, “We understand the challenges that await our sons and graduates in the future, and we fully realize that these changes require a qualification that interacts with these profound shifts, anticipates their far-reaching horizons, and prepares for them.” The President added, “These distinguished graduates, with Allah’s will, will contribute to the advancement of health services. They have been qualified according to the international standards governing the world’s established and reputable universities and based on comprehensive quality pillars.”
The President revealed a key fact: “Today, we celebrate the graduation of 70 students with a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree, a modern specialization that LIMU is unique in offering among Libyan universities, and one that surpasses many universities in the Arab world.
This specialization was meticulously prepared by the most prominent experts and competencies in their field. This academic program was uniquely granted five years of accreditation for the first time by the National Center for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Educational and Training Institutions. Then, the efforts of the brilliant team, the distinguished administration, the esteemed professors (Libyans and their colleagues from the Arab world), and the dedicated, excellent functional staff are crowned with a global achievement: the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACEP) accreditation.”
The University President commended Dr. Salma Boukhtwa, the former Dean of the School of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.), for her great efforts and perseverance in the program’s success, and also thanked Dr. Mariam Al-Nimr for her loyal and devoted contributions to the School of Pharmacy. “In this context, I thank the Program Director, Dr. Mariam Al-Shilabi, who is no stranger to this program but one of its outstanding and brilliant members, and I wish her every success in her mission. We also extend our sincere thanks and congratulations to Professor Dr. Sulaiman Al-Sharif, one of Libya’s exceptional scholars in pharmacology and the Director of the Clinical Pharmacy Program.”
The President proudly highlighted that 15 of the 16 Master’s in Clinical Pharmacy graduates are women. He pointed out, “This is a positive indicator consistent with the vision of this University and the promising vision for Libya, where the male-centric view disappears, and citizens are treated based on their competence and merit, not their gender or any other consideration.”
The President expressed his joy and pride that society has begun to invest in its daughters as it invests in its sons, reinforcing the conviction that investing in the minds of our children, male and female, is the greatest investment. He concluded by congratulating his graduating sons and daughters from both the Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees, affirming his confidence in their abilities, skills, and future contributions to the advancement of their nation. The President also praised the parents who placed their trust in LIMU and chose to empower their children with the highest level of education, bearing the burdens and commitments from their savings and intensified efforts. He stressed that the benefit would not return only to them for bearing the costs of their children’s education in a ‘rentier society,’ but the entire society would benefit through their children’s capacities, skills, and excellence.
