Clinical Skills Center

The Clinical Skills Centre is a specialized training centre for students, health personnel, doctors and some healthcare professionals, with the aim of providing a distinctive training environment that qualifies trainees to practice basic and advanced medical skills, improve the clinical level of students and trainees and raise their level of effectiveness and efficiency.

The Centre provides a modern educational environment to service educational outcomes for undergraduate and postgraduate students, with models and profiles for simulators used to train in certain basic medical skills such as intramuscular injection training, intravenous catheter installation, wound stitching training, ear and eye examination, as well as an environment that simulates the hospital environment from different beds and diagnostic tools, Used to enhance patient examination skills and communication skills as well as conduct clinical practical tests (OSCE)

 

 

Clinical Pharmacists In-The-Making

The university\’s Clinical Skills Center taking its part on the 2nd-year students of the College of Pharmacy on their journey to become Clinical Pharmacists.

 

In this session, these future Clinical Pharmacists were trained to Intravenous Cannulation – a pertinent procedure in the practice of their profession. It is a technique in which a cannula is placed inside a vein to provide intravenous access that  allows for the withdrawal of samples from the patient\ ‘s blood, administration of fluids, medications, intravenous nutrition, chemotherapy and blood products. Students also trained today on Endotracheal Intubation, which is the insertion of a tube into the trachea to keep the airways open and as a conduit for giving the patient certain medications through this tube.

 Training on these topics is included in the curriculum to equip these students with competence prior to real clinical practice.

COVID-19 Precautions to PharmD Students

The Manager of the Clinical Skills Center of the University, Dr. Iman Al-Hassi, gave an awareness lecture to the 3rd, 4th and 5th year levels of the College of Pharmacy of this university on how to prevent infection from CoronaVirus (COVID – 19) in the classroom setting.

Among other the topics, Dr. Iman emphasized on the proper way to do hand-washing and sterilizing hands using hand rub or alcohol before and after classes. Proper disposal of masks was also taught to the attendees.

Very basic as it is but, information on how to do things properly is crucial to maintain infection-free university.

Interns’ Finals

Following the Review Session conducted by the Clinical Skills Center last 26 September 2020, the Interns finally took the test for clinical skills.

The twelve (12) interns were routed to clinically-simulated stations and demonstrated the randomly selected procedural skills on Intravenous Cannulation, Urine Catheterization, Naso-Gastric Tube Insertion and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Mastery of the clinical skills is one of the requirements for these interns’ graduation. Lucky, as they are, to have in the university a skills laboratory that qualifies them to practice basic and advanced medical skills with ease and expertise. More so, the Skills Laboratory have skillful tutors assisting them through.

 Mentoring the skills examination last Saturday were the following tutors: Dr. Mohammad Rhouma, Dr. Owreida Manna, Dr. Sara Al-Magerhe and Dr. Aya Al-Shalmanni. And, facilitated by the Center Administrator, Mari Cari.

6th Scientific Committee Meeting: Enforce COVID-19 Precautionary Measures During Sessions

The Scientific Committee of the Clinical Skills Center had its 6th periodic meeting last Saturday morning, 27th September 2020 at the center’s Skills Laboratory. The meeting, as usual, was chaired by the Vice-President for Health Facilities, Prof./Dr. Mustafa Al-Fakhry.

In the meeting, Dr. Mustafa El-Fahkry prompted for proper coordination among the faculties of the university utilizing the services of the Clinical Skills Center in establishing teaching session schedule. Dr. El-Fahkry also encouraged the Center to implement over-time services should there be a need to accommodate students and trainees. Further, he strongly reminded the Clinical Skills Center to strictly adhere to the precautionary measures throughout the teaching and skills practice sessions.

Present during the meeting is the Manager of the Clinical Skills Center, Dr. Iman Al-Hassi with her Team (the Center Coordinator, Dr. Mohammad Rhouma and Center Administrator, Mari Cari) and the representatives from the Faculties of Medicine, Oral and Dental Surgery, Pharmacy and Basic Medical Sciences.

 

Advanced Courses For International University Doctors In The Egyptian Capital

A number of doctors affiliated with the University Center for Clinical Skills and the Training Center of the Libyan International University of Medical Sciences participated in two training sessions, the first in the treatment of advanced injuries ATLS and the second in the basics of BLS recovery, which were held in the Egyptian capital Cairo with the accreditation of the American College of Surgeons, and implemented by the Egyptian Center for Training in Programs Life support during the period from February 13 to 18, 2020.

The participation of the university doctors in these two interactive courses comes in implementation of the university plan to qualify accredited trainers in \”ATLS advanced injury treatment and BLS recovery basics\” in preparation for completing all accreditation requirements by the American College of Surgeons ACS, in preparation for the university\’s clinical skills center to join a series of accredited training centers spread around the world To implement such courses, which contributes to the success of training and continuous development programs for the national medical components, and promotes graduate programs according to the requirements of the Libyan Council for Medical Specializations.

Our University Doctors Conclude An ATLS Course In Cairo

A number of doctors affiliated with the Center for Clinical Skills and the Training Center at the Libyan International University of Medical Sciences concluded the training course in ”Advanced Traumatology” (ATLS), which was held in the Egyptian capital Cairo with the approval of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and implemented by the Egyptian Center for Training in Life Support Programs during the period From February 13 to 18, 2020

University Dental Center Nurses Undertake Their Training Course

This morning, the training course held by the University’s Clinical Skills Center aims to raise the efficiency of the nursing staff of the University Center for Oral and Dental Surgery.

The course is focused on several training days in which the focus is on developing nursing staff in the basics and how to CPRmeasuring vital signs, such as how to measure blood pressure and use a blood pressure meter, how to measure temperature, how to measure the pulse, and how to measure the respiratory rate.

Emergency Medicine Course Final Tests

The ER Mind Emergency Medicine course concluded yesterday evening with the final theoretical (paper and chip) and Applied Clinical Tests, which qualify the participant for a certificate of attendance of the course accredited by the Libyan International Medical University.

The course, presented by Dr. Mohammed Al-Aqouri, was held at the Clinical Skills Center of the Libyan International Medical University and lasted about a month four days a week, which included theoretical lectures and practical applications, focusing on the following topics:

Common presentations and medical emergencies in the ER:

  • How to recognize the serious patient.
  • How to deal with the serious patient.
  • Decision making skills.
  • Commonly used investigations in the ER.
  • Drugs used in the ER and timing of their use.
  • vasopressors (basics).
  • CPR.
  • basic setting of Mechanical Ventilator.
  • Theoretical exam.
  • Clinical exam (case simulation.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Aqouri is a specialist in Critical Internal Diseases and a British Fellowship in The Interior and the British Fellowship in Acute Diseases.
